My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge 235

Hey there! I’m here with some exciting news today – I’m the July Guest Designer at My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge blog! How fun is that? I love using sketches in my card designs, so was thrilled to get to play with some MFT goodies and sketches.

I took Sketch #235 and created a bright and simple birthday card:

I used a yellow, teal and green color scheme to create a card that I thought would work for any recipient. I stamped a balloon background on my focal point circle element and then topped it off with a sentiment banner and two stamped and die cut balloons. I added some white gel pen to the stamped balloons to give them a bit of reflection.

I hope you play along with this week’s sketch! I’d love to see what you create! Thank you so much for stopping by and thanks to My Favorite Things for letting me play along with them this month!

Embossed Vellum Wedding Card

Hey there, friends! Hope you’re having a happy Wednesday so far! I just wanted to drop in and let you know that a new card tutorial video went up on the Virtual Smooches blog on Monday and I wanted to share it with you!

Since wedding season is upon us, I thought I’d create an elegant wedding card and incorporate some embossing techniques. I heat embossed on vellum and love the result. It reminds me of lace!

Check out the video below or on my YouTube channel to see how it all came together!

Hope you enjoyed it and that you’ll give embossing on vellum a try! Do you have a favorite technique to use on wedding cards? I’d love to know!

Spectacular Dad Card & Video

Hey friends! Hope you’re in the middle of a great week! It finally feels like summer here and I’m loving it.

Since Father’s Day is fast approaching, I’ve got another card idea to share with you using Paper Smooches stamps and dies. This one uses Incognito, Design Motifs, Glasses Dies and the Bookmarks dies.Watch the video below to see how it all came together! And be sure to check the description box on the video over at YouTube to get direct links to all of the supplies I used.

Bold & Bright Hello Card

Hi friends! I hope you’re in the middle of a great week! I certainly am. I had a great day at my internship yesterday and will be working on creating some new card videos today!

But first I wanted to share a fun and bright card I made using older Studio Calico card kits. Most of the items I used came from the Roller Rink and 34th Street card kits, so if you have those, you could easily recreate this little guy!

I’m still a sucker for flair. I know it’s not as huge as it once was (evident by my massive collection of it that I hoarded for years), but I still love it for graphic-style cards.

So that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this card and if you missed my first-ever Monthly 5 favorites video, be sure to go over to my YouTube channel and check it out!

Thanks so much,

Classic Car Father’s Day Card

Hi there! I hope this Wednesday finds you in the middle of a great week. This is an exciting week for me as I’ll be heading to the National Stationery Show in New York City on Saturday! I’ve never been to the show and thanks to one of my super-talented professors, I’ll be able to attend for a day.

So let’s get rolling on to today’s card. I’ve got a Father’s Day card to share that would be perfect for the auto enthusiast in your life. My dad had a 1956 Chevy and this vintage car embellishment reminds me of it almost exactly. The paper and die cuts are from Crate Paper’s Open Road collection and I die cut the sentiment from my Silhouette using a simple font.

Speaking of Silhouette, have you heard about the new machines they’re releasing this fall? I’m so excited for that. That’s it for today’s card! I hope it gave you a Father’s Day idea! I’ll be back with more this week, so stay tuned.

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Floral Stamped Birthday Card

Hi friends! Well, we’ve made it to April! Spring, Easter, bright colors and more are finally on the horizon. I’m thrilled. So today I’m sharing a very spring-inspired floral birthday card and video to go along with it!

I used the Reflections stamp set from Paper Smooches as well as the coordinating dies that go along with it. This is such  a versatile set and you can make a million different designs with it. Definitely a collection staple! Direct links to all products used are in the description section of the video, so be sure to check that out!

I used the Graceful Beauties set on my card as well as the Scalloped Circles die. I had a blast making this card using a water stamping technique (ink up stamp, spritz stamp with water, press down, voila!). It’s great because they take ordinary stamps and make them look like little works of watercolor art! Then I added lots of watercolor paint splatter for fun.

So there you have it! I hope you’re enjoying today’s hop (I know I love seeing what these talented girls have been up to!) and have a fantastic rest of the week!

Embellished Elegance Birthday

Happy Monday, friends! Hope you had a nice, relaxing weekend and that your ready to take on the week! I’m enjoying my last day off before my second semester starts. I’m very excited to get back into the swing of designing and honing my skills, though.

One thing I’m resolving to do this new year is to try more techniques and experiment with  my supplies a bit more. I’ve been super inspired lately by Wilna Furstenburg and have been binge-watching her YouTube videos. She is so free and whimsical and her projects are just breathtaking. I’m hoping I can pick up some pointers from her and get a little more artsy with my designs.

On today’s card, I used Papertrey Ink stamps and a watercolor stamping technique. I first inked up my stamp, then used a spritz bottle to apply just one spritz of water to the inked stamp. Then I stamped it right onto the project! Easy peasy. I did this a few times for the bigger leaf cluster stamps and then stamped normally over top of them. I love the result and definitely want to try this on future projects.

I used the Embellished Elegance stamp set from Papertrey Ink on this card (one of my all-time favorites from them) and an assortment of Hero Arts, Tim Holtz and Papertrey Ink inks.

Have you tried this technique? I’d love it if you left a link to a card you’ve made in the comments section! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Watercolor Love Struck Card & Video

Hi there! Ready for the weekend? I’m looking forward to some quality time with my boyfriend and then next week starts my first week back to school! I’m definitely looking forward to it, but there’s always that little bit of nervousness that comes with the start of new classes.

And of course I’m going to miss all the free time I’ve had over the Christmas break to work on lots of cards and videos. It’s been such a fun activity to throw myself into, especially with the void that creating submissions for Paper Crafts has left. I’ll still be blogging and posting videos, though, so don’t fear! I’m back to blogging and back full force.

Today’s card features one of my recent favorite techniques – watercoloring! I just love the look of it, so I combined some watercoloring with lots of Paper Smooches stamps to create a fun and easy valentine. Check out the description box of the video for direct links to the products I used. Hope you like it!

If you want to see the videos I make come up instantly in your YouTube feed, be sure to Subscribe to my channel! I’d love it if you did.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have a happy weekend,

I used one of the new sets, A Magical Spring to create this card. It includes the little leprechaun, large clover, coin, sentiment and clover cluster. I stacked the large clover image together and then trimmed around the edges of them to create my own border. The little leprechaun was fun to paper piece, but he’d look just as great colored with markers. This set also includes spring and Easter images, so you get the best of both worlds all in one set!

Now continue on hopping and enjoy the other gals’ blogs (I just know they’ve got awesome stuff in store for you). Karolyn Loncon is your next stop! And I even got to hang out with her at CHA! Awesome, funny and talented. Gosh, I love my fellow crafters. 🙂

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!
