Hi friends and Happy Friday to you! It's the happiest day of the week so I hope you're enjoying it. 🙂 I just wanted to stop by today to share a little gift box I made for the December/January issue of Simply Handmade. If you're not familiar with this magazine, it's published by Northridge Publishing – the same people who make Scrapbook Trends, CARDS, Bead Trends and the new Cricut Magazine. Simply Handmade has tons of projects from sewing to paper-crafting and just about everything in between.
The holiday season may be far in the back of our minds, but here's my "Joy Gift Box" that was featured in the Gifts section:
You can also find this gift box in the Northridge Publishing newsletter! How fun is that?
Making gift boxes is one of my new favorite paper-crafting projects. At first, I was intimidated by the idea of working with a 3-D object, but once you try it out a few times, you learn how to make it work! For this box, I knew I wanted to keep the kraft base of the box showing through as one of the colors, so it was just a matter of placing the paper strips on the edges in a way that gave it enough visual interest without looking overdone or "too busy". And designing the box top is the easiest part – it's basically like designing a card front! And Voila! You have a paper-crafted 3-D item.
I hope my sharing this might encourage you to break out some gift bags and treat containers and experiment with a new "medium" for your paper-crafting. We've gotta keep it fresh, right?
Thanks for stopping by and have a happy, crafty weekend!
