I made a big decision yesterday…something that will affect my daily life…something that shows the new direction I'm headed in.
I changed my homepage.
Okay, so maybe it's not a huge decision (and yes I was being a little dramatic on purpose), but it is a part of my everyday life that has now totally changed.
When you think about it, you see your homepage every time you click onto your Internet browser, whether it's to check your e-mail, look up the weather report, or go on Facebook. No matter what you want to do, it's always the first thing you see. And as a college student who opens up the Internet about 30+ times a day, I see my homepage quite a bit. For the last 3 years, my homepage has been the New York Times website.
After getting this laptop for school, I decided my homepage should be the Times because I was going to major in journalism/communications and I thought that I should be well-informed about significant US and world events. Not that I don't still value being well-informed, or informed at all, but staring at that screen every time I logged on to the Internet was getting to be pointless. Every now and then I'd click on an article and try to catch up on some current events, but in reality, I usually just ignored it. (I'm not proud of this fact, but it's the truth.) Then, on a regular basis, I'd see depressing and negative headlines about the economy, rising gas prices, war, scandals, etc. While I think that all of those things are newsworthy and definitely deserve some attention, I just didn't think I needed to be reminded of them 30+ times a day. And more than any of those reasons, I just needed a change.
I wanted a homepage website that would inspire me and that would actually make me happy when I open my Internet browser. And now, I have it!
Design Sponge is my new homepage and I couldn't be happier! Since I've been a bit on the gloomy side since school started again, having just another little bit of inspiration and enjoyment as part of my day is definitely a welcome addition. There's nothing better than opening up my homepage to see fresh new home decor ideas, stationary designs, fashion trends, and beautiful artwork. And since I've come to the realization over the summer that I want art will be at the center of my life and career someday, Design Sponge is just another reminder of the life I want to make for myself and the happiness that I know it will bring.
So, yes, it's just a homepage and maybe it wasn't really a BIG decision, but for me, it's just something new in my daily routine that puts a smile on my face and some inspiration in my mind. And who wouldn't want to come "home" to that? 🙂
